SUPER SAFARIS - KENYA

Kenya provides the ideal base for a Safari into the Great Rift Valley where the anthropologists would have us believe, man took his first tottering steps on two legs. Many visitors are still taking similar tottering steps, however, this is more a consequence of the unexpected strength of the local beer than an attempt to emulate their ancestors.

The country's game stocks have been severely depleted by poaching although rigorous government action has done much to eradicate this odious activity. One species has thrived, however, such that it is now almost impossible to travel anywhere in Kenya without encountering at least one group. We refer, of course, to the Kenyan Middle Distance Runners. Since the 1960s, the Runners have spread their sphere of influence, overtaking coffee and wooden animal ornaments to become Kenya's leading export. It is now almost impossible to find an athletics meeting anywhere in the world where Kenyan Runners have not appeared and made off with the winners' medals.
