The Beer Festival and Social Scene . . .

Although we know that our visitors only come to Worthing for the hockey, it has become apparent to us over the years that certain people are more than just a little interested in what the bar has to offer. For 1997, we came up with the idea of running a Beer Festival alongside the Hockey - a private event restricted to players and spectators as we believed that to admit the general public would dilute the spirit and camaraderie of our Festival.

This innovation was a great success and we shall be repeating the “experiment” in 1998. Last year, we offered more than 20 different real ales of various flavours and strengths and 8 different lagers including special imports. Added to that were draught cider and loads of different bottles and we were able to provide something to suit everyone’s palate. Unlike many similar events, it is our policy to reduce bar prices for the Festival rather than to inflate them.

Once again we shall be offering a good range of hot and cold snacks and meals throughout the weekend. Our special Slimmers’ Breakfasts (sausage, egg, bacon, baked beans, fried bread etc) were particularly popular last year! When it comes to catering, once again we are not looking to rip anyone off and you will find that our pricing is more than fair.

Evening events at Worthing have always been amazingly popular. On Friday night, we shall be inviting you to a Festival Welcome night at the Manor and we shall bribe you to attend by offering a selection of free food - chilli, curry, shepherds’ pie and that sort of thing (by the way we don’t forget to cater for vegetarians). We do understand that whilst people like to keep the Festival mood going into the evenings, they would prefer to go out somewhere rather than to attend the ubiquitous ‘Disco in the clubhouse’. On Saturday and Sunday evenings, we make a special effort and negotiate to take over top local nightclubs and manage to sell tickets at less than their normal admission prices.

In the end it’s up to those participating in the Festival to make it a success, all we can do is to oil the wheels. We shall be pleased to welcome back teams who have been coming to Worthing for many years, we value your ongoing support. Their is only one condition for those who are about to make the decision to attend for the first time in 1998 – you must be prepared to enjoy yourselves.
