Although the GeoNet is specifically designed to be used by geography students and teachers some reviews will focus on materials of a more general nature. This reference book should prove an extremely useful resource for any geography project work.

Key Organisations 99 gives contact details for organisations ranging from the Arson Prevention Bureau to Zoo Check. This year's list is far bigger than last year's, containing 2,750 addresses. In particular you'll find many charities and 'alternative' organisations which are difficult to find elsewhere - many of these organisations are not based in London and some move with surprising frequency. In addition to addresses, phone and fax numbers, the main list contains email addresses and web sites. Dates of foundation are given, as well as membership numbers where the latter applies.

For ease of use, a thematic guide to all the organisations is included. The arrangement within the main alphabetical list is chiefly by key word, with extensive cross referencing.

The back section of the book has details of international museums and major public libraries. Universities, national museums and tourist boards are also covered,

The museums section gives opening hours and details of any charges, including the latest information about free admission for children, while the tourist boards list tells you which ones use premium phone lines. As about 20% of the organisations included have moved, changed phone or fax numbers or even name, or added/changed email and web sites in the last 12 months Key Organisations will prove an invaluable time-saver.

The book is printed on 100% recycled paper.(The book is also available free to subscribers to both the Essential Articles and Fact File series published by Carel Press.)

My thanks to Chas White at Carel Press for providing a review copy of Key Organisations 99.
