Btec National Diploma in Media Studies

This course offers intensive professional production-based education and training across the four major media languages of Print (Journalism/ Layout/Design/Desk Top Publishing) Photography (including Digital Image-making and Manipulation) Radio (Journalism, Programme Production, Digital Sound Production) Film, TV & Video (Film Studies, Production, including Digital & Linear Editing).
    We also offer Media Marketing and Production Management as integrated modules across these areas. This will lead you towards either specialist production-based Higher Education degrees and HNDs or Employment. You will work in small production teams on modules delivered by lecturers with professional backgrounds in local and national media industries. Equipment is of industry standard. Work experience is integrated for both first and second years students.

Entry requirements
Either 4 GCSE passes at C or above (NB GCSE Media is not necessary)
(or) accredited prior learning /experience (for mature students)
(or) internationally recognised qualifications (for overseas students).
NB: All potential students are interviewed by the course leader and entry is competitive.

Assessment
Assessment is continuous. You will be required to complete 60 assessed pieces of coursework across six terms. These include production work, theoretical work and presentations. (Ratio: Practice-based 70% Theory-based 30%) This leads to the award of the BTEC National Diploma in Media Studies (plus SEOCN Certificates in Typographic Design and Higher Education/Employment preparation).

Progression and career opportunities
The course has a high placement rate to Universities and Colleges in Higher Education. From a Degree course you could move into a worthwhile and exciting career working across a range of specialisms in the Media. From a Higher National Diploma you could become focused on a particular set of skills and become part of a highly trained team. Those not going to HE are successfully placed into media production and marketing careers.

Other information
You are advised to apply early. Increasingly students are working alongside those on the Performing Arts and Art-related courses which encourages the rich experience possible at Art School. You can expect to participate in work experience within local media companies and community-based productions. The National Diploma Course has co-operative status with Beckett Newspapers, Sovereign Radio, East Sussex County Council, Eastbourne Association of Voluntary Services, The Rattonians, Chaseley Homes and Mencap.
